Ben Koo commented on Osama Khan's blog post A review of the GMS course
"Osama:   Great comment! I think I should definitely provide some more content in that direction. There are many well-known books and case studies. However, learning the latest strategies for global firms are usually based on historical cases.…"

A 50 year plan for energy

Watched a thought provoking talk by Amory Lovins of the Rocky Mountain Institute titled "A 50 year plan for energy". The speaker shares with us the point of view that the energy supply landscape is about to go through significant shifts in the coming decades. This combined with the threat of climate change puts the impetus of restructuring our economies and industries to cope with change. A major…See More

Coding a better government

I watched the video titled "Coding a better government" by Jennifer Pahlka which discusses the use of citizen powered e-government services.A lot of people are put off by government due to a multitude of reasons. The reason could be ideological, or rampant corruption, or complicated bureaucracy. Everyone has their own horror story about their interaction with a government department. But we as…See More

Thorium as an alternative nuclear fuel

I came across this video on TED on Thorium as an alternative nuclear fuel delivered by Kirk Sorensen. With the current push for adoption of low carbon technologies in the face of global warming, many people have forgotten and pushed nuclear energy to the wayside as an antiquated technology. But as solar and wind power adoption grows, many are starting to realize that to satiate an ever…See More

The Paradox of Choice

Apart from my interest in the area of my studies, I also hold a passing interest in the fields of economics and psychology. I happened to find this video on TED.com so interesting because it tackles the intersection of a broad range of issues ranging from consumerism and psychology to sociology. The talk in question is titled "The paradox of choice" and is delivered by "Barry Schwartz" who is a…See More

A review of the GMS course

Posted on June 20, 2012 at 1:00pm 1 Comment

As the course is now (almost) over, I decided to share some of my opinions and thoughts. I have no doubt that this course was useful to me and I learned some useful skills. I do however think that the course should be renamed to something like "Entrepreneurship and Leadership skills". I enrolled in this class hoping to learn about manufacturing strategies employed by global corporations and organizations and how they maintained a competitive edge by employing innovative strategies. I was…

Challenges of getting to Mars

Posted on June 2, 2012 at 1:00pm 0 Comments

I found the following video amazing : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzqdoXwLBT8

It's an overview of how the latets Mars rover "Curiosity" will land on the surface of the planet. The amazing people at JPL have had to come up with an innovative new technique for landing heavier probes on the surface. Being a huge space nut, I couldn't help but share this.

The problem is that the Martian atmosphere is thick enough…

SpaceX managed to accomplish in 10 years what major countries of the world have been unsuccessfully trying to achieve for decades. All this also comes at a lower cost as well. NASA has retired their Shuttle orbiter and no the USA no longer has a ride for their astronauts into space. With companies like SpaceX, headed by legendary entrepreneur Elon Musk, the space race is on…

Pale Blue Dot

Video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rAa4ZHxg-U

Carl Sagan has always been a hero of mine and his narration titled "Pale Blue Dot" has always inspired me. The video is nicely done and adds to the theme. The current generation has unfortunately grown up without taking much interest in space travel and the excitement of discovery. A number of factors are to blame for this, but the fact is that the future of humanity is in… Continue
