This semester is finally over. After several tough final exams, I can have a rest and make some conclusions of this semester. I have to say that the database course is the most impressive course in this semester and I learned a lot in this course other than the knowledge itself.

First of all, database course shows us a new way of learning. Instead of the teacher-student mode, we learn knowledge by a book-student-student mode. From my stand point, this study mode has both its advantage and disadvantages. We can learn a lot when we are preparing for our lecture, in the contrast, we learned less in the other lectures because of the poor English presentation and poor logic of other lecture teams.

For me, I really enjoyed the time I spent in the toyhouse. I was responsible for the technical content of our group and I read a large amount of books and among all the group members, I had the best control of the technical part of our lecture. However, in lectures of other groups, I can only understand about 50% of the knowledge. The reason I think is most lectures didn’t focus on the knowledge part. They may pay more attention on the whole knowledge map or the storyline instead of some certain knowledge. I think there should be some improvement to solve this problem to make this teaching mode become more prefect.

Next, besides knowledge, the group cooperation and the way to presentation really impressed me in this course. From the time we spent in the toyhouse, to the meetings for our group project, I really learned a lot in group cooperation. In toyhouse, we stayed late for several nights to prepare for our lecture. Everyone had his or her own part of presentation, and in the rehearsal, others would point out the weak points of a person’s presentation. My part is about query improvement. At first, I was blamed by Dr. Koo for my poor presentation skills, our group members helped me a lot about how to present my part, to get a balance between technical and humorous. Finally, after 3 rehearsals, I succeed. I thought this was my best presentation ever.

Also, in our group project, we did a really good time management. I was responsible for the ppt, video part of our group. I always saw other group members stayed out late in the day before the mid-term or the final presentation, however, our group usually finished the all the presentation preparation 1 or 2 days before the final presentation. One scene to be remembered was that the day before the mid-term presentation, there were no student in the dormitory except the members of our group. What a interesting scene!

Finally, I learned a lot about how to make a ppt or a video. All the videos of our group is made by me and JuXin. We both are beginners in video making. However, after 3 videos, we can make a video really good. All of our 3 videos get good feedback. The top 5 scene of Dr. Koo really is really impressive. Also, the BGM of the mid-term video, super Mario is also interesting and help a lot to our presentation.

Special thanks to ZhaoMeiqi, our group leader. She is really a good time manager and she can get the point of the presentation really well. Special thanks to JuXin, my partner in making video, he is really good at finding out good method of showing a scene. Special thanks to ShenHao, the technical leader of out group. He helped me a lot in php and the knowledge in our lecture.

Most of all, special thanks to Dr.Koo, he gave us a new idea of learning and shows us the potential of a Tsinghua student.
